The parts of an irrigation system get most of the attention, but the tools and small hardware used to install them are what actually determine whether those parts perform the way they're supposed to. A poorly cut pipe, a loose clamp, or a wire connector that lets moisture in can undo an otherwise correctly designed system.
Pipe Tools — ratcheting cutters, deburring tools, and similar equipment — matter more than they might seem because a clean, square cut is what allows a solvent-welded PVC joint or a barbed Poly fitting to seal properly. A ragged or angled cut leaves gaps that a fitting can't fully close, which is a common source of a leak that shows up right at a joint rather than along a straight run of pipe.
Clamps secure connections that rely on compression rather than solvent welding — poly fittings, hose connections, and swing pipe joints all depend on a properly tightened clamp to hold pressure. A clamp that's undersized, over-tightened until it cuts into the pipe, or simply the wrong material for outdoor, buried use is a common point of failure that has nothing to do with the fitting itself.
Connectors and Irrigation Wire handle the electrical side of a system — the low-voltage connection between a controller and each Electric Valves solenoid. Waterproof connectors matter specifically because valve wiring typically runs through wet soil inside a valve box; a standard wire nut or exposed splice will corrode and fail, usually showing up as a zone that stops responding to the controller months or years after installation.
