PVC Irrigation Fittings
PVC fittings are the standard for rigid irrigation mainlines and laterals, solvent-welded to the pipe for a permanent, high-tolerance bond that holds up under constant underground pressure. Schedule 40 handles most residential and light commercial runs, while Schedule 80 offers a thicker wall for higher-pressure or higher-traffic applications. PVC Irrigation Fittings
PVC is the standard material for rigid sections of an irrigation system — mainlines running from the water source and the laterals branching off to each zone. Unlike poly pipe, PVC doesn't flex, so once a PVC layout is solvent-welded together, it holds its shape and position permanently underground, which is part of why it's the default choice for the buried backbone of a system rather than for zones likely to be reconfigured later.
Solvent welding is a chemical bond, not a mechanical one: primer softens the surface of the pipe and fitting, and cement fuses them together as it cures, creating a joint that's often stronger than the pipe itself once fully set. That strength comes with a tradeoff — a solvent-welded joint can't be taken apart and reused, which is why cutting into an existing PVC line for a repair or a new branch requires a fresh fitting rather than reusing the old one.
Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 refer to wall thickness, not diameter. Schedule 40 has a thinner wall and is standard for most residential and light commercial irrigation, where working pressure stays within a predictable range. Schedule 80 has a thicker wall built to handle higher pressure or more physical stress, which makes it more common in commercial applications or sections of a system exposed to heavier loads, like a mainline running under a driveway.
Tees and elbows handle branching and directional changes in a layout, while couplings join two straight lengths of pipe and adapters transition between different pipe sizes or materials — including a shift from rigid PVC to flexible Poly pipe further out in a zone.
