Swing Assemblies
A swing assembly is a flexible joint installed between the lateral line and a sprinkler head, letting the head absorb impact from a mower, foot traffic, or ground settling instead of transferring that stress directly to a rigid fitting underground. It also makes it easier to set a head at the exact height and position needed, since the flexible riser can be adjusted without moving the pipe itself. Shop swing pipe and assemblies sized to protect your lateral lines and get precise head placement.
Swing Assemblies
A sprinkler head connected directly to a rigid lateral line has nowhere to give. Run a mower over it, step on it at the wrong angle, or let the ground settle slightly around it, and the force has to go somewhere — usually into the fitting connecting the head to the pipe, which cracks or shears off below grade where it's expensive and disruptive to dig up and repair.
A swing assembly interrupts that direct connection with a length of flexible pipe between the rigid lateral line and the head. When something hits the head, the flexible section absorbs and redirects the impact instead of transferring it straight into a rigid joint, which is what turns a would-be break into a head that simply flexes and pops back into place.
The same flexibility that protects against impact also makes installation easier. A swing assembly lets you fine-tune a head's exact height and lateral position after the rigid pipe is already in place, which matters more than it might seem — a head set slightly too low gets buried by turf growth over time, and one set slightly off-position throws the whole zone's coverage pattern off. Adjusting a flexible riser is a much smaller job than repositioning a rigid connection.
Swing assemblies connect to both PVC mainlines and Poly lateral lines, so the choice of swing pipe usually comes down to matching the connection style already used in the rest of the zone rather than the swing assembly itself. If an existing rigid connection has already cracked, Repair Couplings can fix the break — but installing a swing assembly at the same time prevents the same head from failing again the next time something hits it.
