Step 1: Find Total Watts
Sum the wattage of all bulbs on this run.
Example: (6 lights x 3W) + (2 lights x 5W) = 28 Watts.

Step 2: Measure Run Length
Measure the wire distance from the transformer to the last fixture on the line.

SAFETY FIRST Amperage Limits

Think of wire like a straw. If you pull too much power through a thin straw, it creates friction heat. 12-gauge wire is safe for up to 192W. Never exceed your wire's capacity.

PERFORMANCE The "Sweet Spot" (10.5V - 11.5V)

LEDs are sensitive. If your End Voltage is too high, bulbs burn out. If it's too low (below 10V), they flicker. Aim for 10.8V for the best balance.

PRO TRICK Multi-Tap Transformers

If Voltage Drop is high, pros use transformers with 13V or 14V "taps." This starts power at a higher pressure so 11V+ actually reaches the end.

PRO TRICK The "Hub" Method

Run your main wire to a central junction point (a hub), then branch out. This cuts your Run Length in half and solves most voltage issues.
