1. Count Your Watts: Add up the wattage of every bulb you plan to install. (Example: 6 path lights x 3 watts each = 18 total watts).
2. Apply the 80% Buffer: Never load a transformer past 80% of its maximum capacity. On a 75-watt transformer, your maximum safe target load is 60 watts. This leaves plenty of clean headroom and prevents the core from overheating.
3. Choose Your Beam Angle: Use narrow 15° to 30° spot beams for tall, skinny columns. Use wide 60° flood beams for sprawling oak trees or wide garage brick walls
1. Place & Space: Set your fixtures on top of the ground exactly where you want them. Space pathway lights roughly 6 to 8 feet apart in a staggered, zigzag pattern to avoid looking like an airport runway.
2. Run the Main Cable: Lay your 12/2 wire loosely along the ground, snaking it behind shrubs and right next to the fixture stakes. Leave an extra 2 feet of slack loop at each light.
